Te Matakīrea - Indigenous Design Unit
The Warren and Mahoney Advanced Indigenous Design Unit - Te Matakīrea, has been formed to explore the deep cultural foundations of the places where we live, work and play. We offer a world leading co-design capability that can influence a broad range of architectural and urban design projects across all sectors and typologies. When Indigenous peoples are engaged and empowered early in the design process, the sustainability and community worldview they bring, along with unique insights and approach to practice, adds value to any project. We can tailor our people, collaborators and the expertise we bring to improve project outcomes.

In 2023, Warren and Mahoney was named one of the top ten most innovative architectural practices globally by Fast Company. Specific recognition was given to our industry-shaping work in Indigenous and Traditional Owner collaboration and co-design where projects are designed in true partnership.
“Warren and Mahoney has brought an immensely rich process of engagement to their architectural enquiry. It is a process that is informed by a higher level commitment and deep understanding as to the importance of mana whenua in architecture here in Aotearoa.”
