Workshops with executive stakeholders and operational staff identified three key user personas: The Family All Day Experience, The Village Dweller and The Ski Nut. Looking at the existing infrastructure through these lenses helped the team identify the critical interventions needed.
Maintaining the existing buildings to help build character, while embodying the quirky nature of the resort, became a key move of the masterplan. From there, journeys for guests started with replanning the arrival sequencing and resort touch points.
The material palette is robust, to withstand the tough alpine conditions and the detailing deliberately simplified to allow for the limited construction windows between seasons.
Removing barriers and opening up the engagement between Cardrona people and guests has enhanced the customer experience while maintaining the Cardrona vision of repurposing and respecting the ecology of the maunga.
