Inspired by context
The area of Black Rock is imbued with an array of textural qualities rooted in its geotechnical formations and local history. The cliffs of Red Bluff on the shoreline of Half Moon Bay are one of the area’s notable landmarks, owing its name to the oxidised iron in the rock. The rich burnt orange of the cliffs meets the contrasting turquoise sea which sets up a context of contrast; in colour, in texture, in form. This creates a strong palette to work with in the design of the spaces and facade treatments of the building.
The form of the project takes design cues from the curved geometry of the historic HMVS Cerberus that rests nearby; a 19th century naval ship that protected Melbourne and its Port Philip Bay before World War II. The shipwreck now serves as a breakwater and scuba diving hot spot. Curved stone façades and round kitchen islands reference the curved turrets of the ship, while gunmetal tapware and engineered oak floors bring distinguished luxury to the two and three-bedroom dwellings.
Vibrant details and functional design
Sophistication and elegant simplicity are at the heart of its functional design, while a signature central island acts as the focal point for guests and family alike. A spacious yet intuitive layout ensures everything is within reach, ideal for an evening drink, afternoon chat, or early morning coffee.
We wanted Lumiere Black Rock to be a true reflection of its breathtaking surroundings. The Lumiere residences showcase the best of Bayside living and evidence that multi-residential developments can be uniquely timeless, architecturally inspired, light-filled and private.
