Establishing a new address
Formerly known as Fidelity House, the building at 81 Carlton Gore Road was the long-standing headquarters of New Zealand insurer Fidelity Life. Their departure has provided a canvas to create a new masterpiece in residential living, aptly named The Domain Collection.
What the former building lacked in architectural merit, it more than made up for in location. Situated adjacent to the Auckland Domain, the site faces north and presents itself directly to the Domain – one of Auckland’s most prominent parks and home to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Located on the fringe of Parnell and Newmarket, it is in close proximity to Newmarket’s public transport hub and minutes' walk from the shopping, dining, and entertainment district.
Art in architecture
The project ambition revolves around converting this office building into a new residential complex with three key objectives of creating a place for residents that creates rare, juxtaposed and audacious experiences both within the interior and the exterior of the project.
As the only residential building in direct sight from the Auckland War Memorial Museum it was absolutely critical that the architecture reflects and respects the space it occupies within the grandeur of the Domain.
The Domain Collection is like a piece of art – it’s clearly connected to its surroundings, but it has its own identity that is glamourous and bold with an air of playfulness that’s reminiscent of the Domain’s purpose as one of Auckland’s great playgrounds.
The buildings are warm and inviting – built with natural and sustainable materials as if they have always been there. Beautiful timber detailing, concrete and stone have been used to connect them into the natural landscape. The existing building retains high, 3-metre studs to all apartments creating a sense of space and luxury.
Something for everyone
The Park Residences offer generous sized apartments with large outdoor terraces, unencumbered Domain and city views as well as three-car garaging. Across a landscaped courtyard behind is the Garden Residences, a new six-level, north facing building with sunny balconies and breathtaking scenic views of Auckland’s volcanic mountains to the south. This mid-market apartment building offers an array of options to suit different tastes and budgets.
