A contemporary raised-floor riverside home drawing inspiration from the mid-century classics

Desmond Street House

Situated on the Merivale riverbank, the natural amenity of the site drove the design response. Flood control requirements required the floor level to be set nearly a meter off the ground, while planning required a river setback and the protection of an existing copper beech tree. These features have created a floorplan and an arrangement that is rich in spatial diversity.
One part rock star, one part understated family haven on a tight suburban street – this house straddles an unusual dichotomy without missing a beat.
