The new artwork provides a visual-sensory experience of the taniwha Horotiu – the kaitiaki (guardian) of the Wai o Horotiu stream, and that its presence remains in the landscape of Tāmaki Makaurau. This is further embodied through the central ‘mana compass’ that geographically aligns users to the surrounding maunga/mountains of Tāmaki Makaurau with integrated lighting design.
It is embedded in all corners of the space – engraved into the stairs, acoustic panels, functional and branded wayfinding – and informing the structural design of a number of interior elements. As a result, the pattern system is now an integrated part of the Aurecon brand identity.
Kua papa ahau. Kei te mārama au e tū me nga wāhanga huhua o te tangata hei whakaputa i ahau. Koinei te mana nui e akiaki ana i ahau ki ngā mahi kāore e mōhiotia. I am grounded. I understand where I am from, and the diverse parts of me that make me who I am. This is the superpower that propels me into the potential of the unknown.
