Warren and Mahoney welcomes Tobin Smith as Principal

April 7, 2025
Warren and Mahoney is pleased to announce the appointment of Tobin Smith as Principal based in our Christchurch Studio to help continue the firm’s proud tradition of designing exceptional homes and community facilities.

Tobin has spent his career designing fine-grain projects, specialising in residential architecture, multi-housing design, and high-end homes. He joins Warren and Mahoney at an exciting time, with increasing ambition to create innovative and sustainable homes that are inspired by and responsive to their unique context.

Tobin’s unique blend of creativity and pragmatism has resulted in an impressive portfolio of built work across the country, spanning a broad range of sizes and budgets.

Each project is specifically informed by its site, context and client’s needs, while maintaining an overarching desire to create meaningful, unashamedly ‘Kiwi’ architecture.
Tobin says it’s incredibly exciting to be joining the team.

“Warren and Mahoney has helped define our unique style of architecture in the South, with robust and honest design and materials applied with a progressive and ambitious outlook. This approach is just as relevant today and I can’t wait to work with the team to continue to create great spaces for great people.”

WAM Christchurch Studio Head of Design, Jonathan Coote, says it’s exciting to welcome Tobin at a time when genuinely authentic New Zealand and Pacific architecture is gaining increasing influence on the global stage.

“Being trusted to design a home is both a great privilege and responsibility – one that Warren and Mahoney has embraced for over 65 years. Tobin’s approach to design, which genuinely reflects the needs and desires of the inhabitants, perfectly aligns with our design ethos. We’re delighted to welcome him into the fold to continue delivering authentic, enduring homes for our clients.”
