Warren and Mahoney was honoured at the 50th Anniversary Los Angeles Architectural Awards, winning the Tripartite award in recognition of Mason Bros. in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, developed by Precinct Properties. The virtual gala hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council on October 22, awarded teams of architects, contractors, owners and developers for setting new standards of design excellence.
The Tripartite, a prestigious honour which fosters design and collaboration between sister cities; Los Angeles, Auckland and Guangzhou in China, recognises commitment to shared urban development and sustainability goals. Mason Bros. was one of 23 winners in a competitive selection process from hundreds of projects by an esteemed blind jury panel representing a cross-section of industry experts including architects, construction firms, owners and developers. Waterview Connection, designed by Warren and Mahoney and the Well Connected Alliance, also received the LABC Tripartite Award in 2019.
Project Principal Blair Johnston says the practice is thrilled to receive this award for Mason Bros., which involved the adaptive re-use of a character warehouse.
“We’re really proud of the international recognition that this project continues to receive, and in particular the LABC Tripartite Award, which is of particular significance to the practice.
“Classed as one of New Zealand’s greenest buildings, we were intent on preserving as much of the special character of the original warehouse as possible. Mason Bros. was designed to be spatially courageous and reinvents an expected commercial space in favour of a bespoke approach. Alongside Precinct Properties, we are proud that it’s now an established symbol of the regeneration of the wider Wynyard Innovation Precinct."
